This is a measure of how efficient the sanding system is at removing the dust created from sanding the floors from the air before it is vented into your house. The closer this number is to 100%, the less dust is generated and the less cleanup will be required after your floors have been sanded.

In pricing jobs, flooring companies typically calculate the total square footage to be covered and then add a waste factor to this total. The waste factor covers the additional material required when flooring has to be cut down to fit to the size and shape of the floor. This factor is applied like a sales tax to your job, e.g. a 7% waste factor will increase your job cost by 7% and can have a significant impact on the price of the job. Some companies apply the factor only to materials while others apply it to the entire installed price. Prices listed above do not include the waste factor.

Shoe molding is the small, rounded trim piece that joins your flooring with the baseboard on your walls. This is installed after new floors have been installed. The price listed is the price per linear foot. The price includes both the labor and material charge for installing new shoe molding. To get an idea of how many feet of shoe molding is required, measure the perimeter of all of your hardwood floor at the point where the floor meets the walls.

This is the cost for moving all furniture of the floors before the job is begun and then back on to the floor after the job is complete. Particularly heavy or large pieces, e.g. pianos, pool tables, etc., are often not included in this price.

The service providers you hire should carry both general liability & workers compensation insurance, which provides for workers medical bills and lost wages if they happen to be injured on the job. This insurance can be quite expensive, particularly for high-risk occupations. Some businesses may be tempted to avoid the expense by letting insurance lapse. For this reason, you should always verify that the service provider has a current insurance policy.
