This is the charge to have the locksmith come to your location. Unless noted below as being waived, the service call fee is typically charged in addition to the rates for services listed below.

If checked, the service call fee is charged only if the total fees for locksmith services do not exceed the service call amount. If 'Added to service fees' is listed, the service call fee is charged in addition to the fees for any services the locksmith provides.

Re-keying (changing) a lock allows you to use new keys on your existing locks. If you have moved into a new residence or lost a set of keys, your can re-key your locks and avoid the expense of replacing the knobs and deadbolts. Re-keying involves replacing the tumblers (pins, pin tumblers) of a lock cylinder with other tumblers of different sizes. The lock will then require a different key to operate. The new key will coincide with the new tumblers and the old key will no longer work. Locksmiths typically charge to re-key locks based on the number of cylinders in the lock. To count the number of cylinders you have, simply count the number of slots where you can insert your key.

To ensure that locks function properly, they should be periodically lubed, adjusted and the strikes within the cylinder should be set. This will result in the key smoothly traveling into the lock and the lock cylinder turning easily.
